Personality Enhancement for Visually Impaired Students

Channeling Ability

Life can be very tough for visually impaired persons, especially when they leave the protected environment of a school or their home and venture out into the world in search of vocation. Visually impaired students, living and studying in Blind schools or open community, need special training in Personality Enhancement, Self-Management and other Life Skills, so that they can equip themselves to face the world with confidence.

Such a course has been designed, keeping in mind, the special needs of this group: to prepare them, from daily living skills to finding the right Career for themselves, so that they can become economically independent and live a life of dignity in the mainstream.

Today, a large number of visually impaired children are attending school and later college. And, most of them put in a great deal of effort to endow a good education, which would ultimately facilitate their journey to arrive at their rightful place in mainstream society.

Unfortunately, these children have no idea what so ever, as to why they have to meet with dejection and disappointments most of the time? Why no one is willing to trust his or her abilities and skills? Even though, they have most impressive CVs to present, hardly anyone out there wishes to put their confidence in a blind person! This only goes to prove that visually impaired people are unable to transmit their true abilities due to the lack of an across-the-board education.

With almost all available resources diverted towards the challenges of providing an academic education and vocational training, for visually impaired students, the vital social skills and other related and essential know how typically get ignored.

Many skills like table manners, dressing sense, the power of body language and interaction with mainstream society, are hardly ever acquired! If studied closely, all these skills are usually learnt automatically during the process of growing up by way of imitation using eyesight. Thus, the visually impaired person remains a miss fit no matter what her / his qualifications may be.
